  • It’s not a bird, it is a plane…

and it isn’t superman. I am somewhat skeptical about faith the Israeli’s are putting in air power in their current campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon – I think they will find they need boots on the ground the achieve their goals

  • Porterhouse and Fusty Ferret

Two days in Dublin with no kids and, more importantly, no need to drive meant time for bookshops and nice beer.

  • Terrorist infrastructure?

So the 2006 Mid East war rages on, and apparently is scheduled to end next week, because Bush has given Israel that long to finish destroying the ‘infrastructure’ of Hezbollah. It raises, in passing, an interesting question about the definition of ‘terrorist’ in international politics – surely if you possess ‘infrastructure’ you have passed into…

  • I’m meltiiinnnngg…….

It’s the second day of 30 degree C heat here, with rock bottom humidity. I can’t live in this weather.

It is amazing how politicans find it impossible to simply admit they made a mistake, dump the evoting machines they wasted 50 million on, and buy a decent system with open source software and a full paper trail

  • Splits and failures in Darfur

The Sudanese Civil war drags on, and not surprisingly, the Khartoum government isn’t doing much to help end it.

  • No World Cup in Somalia

I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so — the Islamic Courts faction in Somalia have ‘banned’ watching the World Cup

  • Doing some (dis)service to the State

I am not sure it was entirely appropiate for Bertie Ahern to give the graveside oration the the funeral of C. J. Haughey. While CJ was most certainly entitled to a State Funeral as a former Taoiseach, it might have been better to allow a former colleague to give the oration.
